Today’s Drop 💼

✍️ Starting Your Copywriting Agency

🍿 The Big Picture:

Today we will be breaking down what it takes to start your very own copywriting agency. But first let’s set the record straight: this world of copywriting has nothing to do with the legalities behind intellectual property.

The job of a copywriter is to influence people through words. In essence, a copywriter crafts compelling messages to drive actions. This can take many forms such as writing blog posts, product descriptions, scripting advertisements & more.

A copywriting agency can be a team of skilled writers managing various projects and offering a spectrum of writing services to help businesses communicate effectively. Yet, it’s also possible to run a one-man copywriting agency.

🛠 The Idea:

Here's the lowdown from your friends at the Odd Night family on kickstarting this venture:

Finding your turf:

Choose a niche that you already have some knowledge on. This is important because it will help you land initial clients and write content without having to research every aspect of a brand new industry.

Hit the books:

If you don’t take yourself to be a natural writer, there’s a treasure trove of great copywriting courses and a wealth of free content available online.

Reeling in the clients:

  • Create a profile advertising your services on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr.

  • Set up a simple website or landing page using services like Squarespace or Carrd.

  • Start cold emailing businesses with the services you offer, and try to get them to jump on a call with you so you can pitch to them in more detail.

Delivering the goods:

When it’s time to get down to the writing business, you’ve got a couple of options. Either you pen down the pieces yourself, or you recruit some writers while you handle the marketing and sealing the deals.

AI use wisely:

We don’t recommend using AI to write your copy entirely, especially as there is talk of websites like Google sniffing out AI content and pushing it down the search ranks.

However, using AI platforms like ChatGPT or these tools can be great to organise, refine, and brainstorm on content.

🔥 Is the Market Hot?

As of 2023 the copywriting market was valued at an astonishing $25.29 billion. It’s no secret that the number of copywriters has been on the incline in recent years.

🍞 Revenue Potential:

You may need to charge as low as $0.05 per word to land your first clients but you can work your way up as high as $0.50 per word over time if your chosen target industry is large enough.

Now, here’s the kicker – in this game, you essentially set your own rates. If you’ve got the expertise, experience, and a portfolio that’s a testament to your golden touch, the sky’s the limit. Believe it or not, there are some copywriting agencies out there raking in a whopping $25,000 per page!

It’s also important to know there are no start up costs required aside from your domain name and website costs if you choose to make one.
